What is Akiwa?
The Word...
Akiwa (pronounced ah-ky-wuh) is a Swahili word is used as the feminine tense of the verb to
be.  So Akiwa can be translated as the feminine manifestation of being.

The Project...
The Akiwa Project is the Oakland based private practice of Dr. Erica Britton, a California
licensed clinical psychologist (CA License# PSY 20712).  Dr. Britton's work is dedicated to
helping people learn and live powerfully and authentically in the midst of their lives.

The Practice...
Dr. Britton's therapeutic style is client-centered, non-judgemental, and strength based; and
grounded on the principle that healing and growth are formed and nurtured in the presence of
healthy relationships.  Her interventions are informed and shaped by the complex intersections
of the client's personal, interpersonal, social, and global contexts.
